A safety valve is a valve that is used to protect equipment from damage, even from explosions, when installed in pressure vessels. It is designed to automatically activate when the inlet pressure reaches a predetermined level, open the disc and discharge the fluid. In most cases, to prevent natural flow to the surface, it is necessary to have a means of closure, for which a subsurface safety valve (SSSV) is the best option. The SSSV is controlled by a stainless steel control line, with up to 10,000 psi pressure in order to keep the valve open.
As well as for their primary purpose, the SSSV can be used for various other applications, such as capillary coiled alloy tubing for chemical injection, bare and encapsulated hydraulic control line coiled alloy tubing for subsea safety valves, velocity strings, work strings, and steel tube umbilicals, and geothermal coiled alloy tubing for subcise safety applications.
