The TP316L stainless steel has an austenitic chromium-nickel alloy composition with molybdenum and low carbon content. This steel offers excellent corrosion resistance to many environments such as organic acids at high concentrations and moderate temperatures, phosphoric and sulphuric acids, salt solutions, and caustic environments. TP316L's low carbon content also gives it even greater intergranular corrosive resistance than steels of type TP316.

It is important to note, however, that austenitic steel are susceptible to stress corrosion cracking at tempuratures above 140 Fahrenheit. Thus, it is important to consider all service conditions, including shutdowns, and the condensates that can form, that could lead to pitting and stress corrosion cracking.

Finally, the tubing is heat-treated off-mill in a reducing atmosphere furnace, which gives it the desired mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.
